One glance at the number of massage creams on the market today, and it becomes clear that professional massage therapists and bodyworkers have a wide variety of needs and preferences in

their daily work. These products are not one size fits all, and the type of cream practitioners select often is dependent on the techniques and modalities they perform on a regular basis.

No matter how much you love a particular product, whether due to its scent, organic ingredients or other factors, the bottom line is that professional massage therapists need a cream that will allow them to perform their services in an optimal manner. Ideally, you should be able to find a cream that you love to use and that also allows you to apply your chosen techniques in the best possible way.

For example, those who tend to perform lighter types of touch therapy may find that a massage cream that offers up a nice level of glide will be the best bet.

The same goes for the other side of the spectrum, too. Practitioners who perform deeper and more focused forms of massage therapy or bodywork may find that a massage cream that has more friction and less glide will create the performance they’re looking for in that ideal massage cream.

If you are not quite sure just how much friction or glide you prefer in a massage cream, focus a little more on the way you use your current product. If you find you are having to pump out extra massage cream quite a few times throughout each session, then you may be using a product that does not have the right amount of glide for your lighter strokes.

On the other hand, if you find yourself trying to use as little product as possible to achieve the right amount of stick for the deeper work you do, then that may be a good indication that your current massage cream has too much glide to suit your modality.

What you want to find is a product that allows you to be efficient, without having to worry too much about increasing or decreasing the amount of massage cream you use as you go through each session.

Fortunately, some massage cream manufacturers will specify whether their product is designed to work well with deep tissue techniques for lighter modalities that focus more on relaxation. Try testing out a few samples of various creams to see if you can find the product that best matches your modality.
