HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Alpha Beta Zeta Chapter has teamed up with Making Strides against Breast Cancer Peninsula and local certified massage therapists

(CMTs) to offer the first Chair Massage-a-Thon. The purpose of this event is to support Breast Cancer research and raise community awareness of stress points and the benefits of relaxation measures.

All funds will go to the American Cancer Society in support of research, treatments, mammograms and to ultimately find a cure for breast cancer. Chair massages will serve as a source of relaxation as patrons are made aware of the benefits and importance of regular distressing techniques.

From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2014, at the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, Virginia, local Massage Therapists will provide 15-minute chair massages for $10 to raise money for breast cancer. Additionally, each therapist was requested to create a gift basket from their company to be “gifted” away. At least 30 CMTs have been requested but more are welcome and appreciated.

In the event of inclement weather, this event will be held at The International Spa Institute, located behind Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News. Both locations were donated.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Alpha Beta Zeta Chapter looks forward to hosting this benefit and plans to make it an annual project for years to come.

All attendees any interested parties are also invited to attend the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at 10 a.m. on Oct. 11, 2014, at the Mariners Museum located at 100 Museum Dr., Newport News. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. has scheduled Dine to Donate benefit dinners at Applebee’s in Newport News Sept. 22-25 and Applebee’s in Hampton Oct. 6-10, as well. Customers need only mention Making Strides against Breast Cancer/Zeta, and 10 percent of the bill will be donated to Making Strides against Breast Cancer.

Zeta Phi Beta’s Katrina Foster, chapter chairperson for Making Strides against Breast Cancer, is a CMT and serves as the point of contact for this event. She can be contacted at (757) 532-2742.

Foster, the owner and sole operator of Sunset Spa, is a Navy veteran who wanted to provide a service back to her community. Sunset Spa was originally located in Yorkshire, Virginia, working with the goal to ease tension and stress through service. Foster now works from home and Langley Air Force Base, with the same goal in mind.
