During October, people across the US will see pink everywhere in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As the nation looks for ways to spread awareness a growing legion of more than 1,000 maid services across North America continue to provide free professional house cleanings to women whose lives are directly impacted by the disease.
“As a small business, I wanted to be able to give back to my community and when I found out about Cleaning for a Reason, I knew I wanted to be involved with that organization,” said Debi Bascue, president of Rag Mops Cleaning Service of Lewisville, Texas. “It is such an easy way for us to help. Sometimes it’s hard as a small business but this organization gives us the option to give in a way that suits us. It makes a huge difference to the women we serve.”
Since 2006, the number of maid services partnering with Cleaning for a Reason has continued to grow, providing help to more than 15,000 women. And some iconic brands have joined the endeavor.
“Swiffer, in collaboration with Walmart, has been engaged with Cleaning for a Reason for four years and is lending tremendous support by spreading the word about our cause again this year,” Debbie Sardone, founder of Cleaning for a Reason. During October, Swiffer focuses on raising awareness for the organization with pink Swiffer Sweepers, Swiffer WetJets, and Swiffer Dusters displayed on Cleaning for a Reason branded pallets in Walmart stores across the country.
This October, Cleaning for a Reason is going one step further. With the help of Swiffer and other iconic brands they are providing care packages for the recipients of the free cleanings. The packages include Olay Regenerist Microsclupting cream, Crest Pro Health Clinical Gum Protection toothpaste, Oral B Pro Health Clinical Pro Flex toothbrush, a Swiffer Duster 360, Pantene Beautiful Lengths shampoo and conditioner, and Bounty paper towels. Additionally, women are invited to share their story via #SwifferGoesPink.
“With the support of these brands, we’ll be able to recruit more maid services and help more women battling cancer,” added Sardone. She continued, “One of the biggest challenges we face is that there are so many women who need this service. We are always looking for more cleaning services to sign up to provide the cleanings, which is why we are grateful to Swiffer and Walmart for helping us spread the word.”
