Prescription for Addiction

Heroin was once thought of as an inner city problem, not something you would hear about in small towns throughout America--a drug used by the lower income class. Today the landscape has dramatically changed and it has become a nationwide epidemic hitting rural areas, suburbs, and small cities including Seattle. The rise in heroin addiction has resulted from over prescribed opioid painkillers such as OxyContin. As restrictions have tightened on prescribing these painkillers, addicts have turned to the streets and discovered heroin to be a cheaper and stronger way to get high. An OxyContin pill can cost around $80 on the street, while a hit of heroin is $10-$20. Over half of heroin addicts reportedly started abusing prescription painkillers before they ever used heroin. OxyContin was created by the Sacklers family under their company, Purdue Pharma, which they purchased in 1952. In the 70’s they developed a controlled drug release...

Soak Up the Sun

The relationship between sun exposure and our health may not be as straightforward as we have been made to believe. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States with the most lethal form of skin cancer being melanoma. The sun has always been linked to be the cause of this condition. It is claimed that too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can damage the DNA in skin cells. If enough DNA damage occurs over time, this can build up and cause your cells to start growing erratically, which can lead to skin cancer. Sunscreen was created to prevent skin cancer and has been thought to protect us - until recently. Think about it. If the sun was the only factor causing skin cancer and sunscreen prevented it, we’d be cancer-free by now based on statistics. Not to mention we are spending less time...

Seeking Immunity

Throughout history, we have been exposed to misleading and broken statements from agencies that were created with the intent to protect us. Less than fifty years ago, tobacco companies were promoting that cigarettes were not addictive or hazardous to your health. In fact, there were advertising campaigns featuring “nine out of ten doctors” recommend their brand. After 30 years of asbestos manufacturers putting their material throughout our public buildings and schools, it was proven that asbestos causes cancer even though company insiders have known this for years. In the 1980’s, most studies showed the rate of autism in children to be 1 in 10,000. The latest studies conducted by the CDC (2014) show that 1 in 68 children have autism. There are many possible reasons and many unanswered questions as to why and how this alarming accelerating rate is happening. Sixty percent of parents of children with autism blame vaccines,...

One Sure Way To Live 100 Years

One Sure Way To Live 100 Years
The idea of living forever might seem like a fairytale -- especially in the 1800’s, where the average life expectancy was 35 years. But now people are living up to 80 years of age. So how far can we expect this trend to continue? Some researchers say that there's a limit on how many years a human being can live, the maximum being 125. That is only a few years short of the longest documented human lifespan. Jeanne Calment of France (1875–1997) lived to the age of 122 years. Nobody lives forever, and most fear dying too early. If you do get blessed with longevity, you hope to avoid sickness and disease. My goal is to be a centenarian. I want live to 100 with full vitality and vigor, have a huge party with all my community and family, and leave this world as painlessly as blowing out my birthday...

They're popping up on tropical islands all over the world, and they range from basic wellness centers to 5-star resorts. They offer everything wellness-related such as yoga, meditation, detoxing, and a whole host of other things.   Sensory Deprivation Tanks Although sensory deprivation tanks have been around...
